About Cummins Jakson ( Generators)

We have been responsible for major industry milestones since our incorporation in 1947, and we challenge conventional thinking. Jakson has become a trend-setter in delivering the best Gensets, Switch Boards and Panels and providing the top class services.

We invite you to take a tour through the history of the Jakson Group and describe the most important milestones in its past.

1945: Birth of Jakson in Lahore Pakistan- Initial Years

In 1945, the company was established as a Trading House under its original name of ‘Jakson’ with a bare minimum capital and 2 employees in Lahore, Pakistan. In 1947, the operations were shifted to India and grew significantly throughout the 1950s after India’s independence. In 1957 Jakson achieved a new milestone by making advances into distributorship. Jakson became distributors for Kirloskar, L&T and Siemens.

1970s: A decade of expansion

Around this time, the company actively enhanced its presence in the field of marketing of Generating sets and pump sets in 1973. Jakson became the first North Indian brand to start a Generating set manufacturing plant in 1997based in New Delhi, India.

1980

This decade was marked with a raised investment capital as strategic alliance with Cummins took place in 1982. This alliance came as a chief milestone in the history of Jakson as it became an OEM partner to Cummins. In 1988, Jakson was encouraged to develop into new markets and hence diversified in providing Turnkey solutions “from concept to commissioning” in the field of powergen.

1990s: A decade of innovation

This decade of Innovation saw improvements and augmentation in Jakson’s infrastructure. Genset manufacturing facility was inaugurated in 1993 at Daman in Western India. Subsequently, the company launched RTU and Silent DG Sets as a concept in India. Another feather in its cap, Jakson was the first Indian genset company to venture into manufacturing of Silent Generating Sets. The company was actively involved in strategizing to provide complete power management solution to the customer. This vision motivated the company to establish a Switchgear manufacturing plant at Noida in Northern India.

2000: Challenges and creativity in new fields

With the onset of 21st Century, customer was spoilt with host of choices. The globe was shrinking and the world getting flat. To meet this expectation Jakson decided to be world class and won itself ISO certification. Subsequently, taking advantage of its ability to provide quality solutions and its expansive infrastructure, Jakson forayed into various segments and established 100% Export Oriented Unit at Daman. Born from its wide-ranging and extensive engineering experience, Jakson was able to display its strengths in EPC and Electrical Contracting in 2006. In 2007, the Switchgear manufacturing plant was shifted to a state-of-the-art plant in Greater Noida, Northern India- one of the largest switchgear facilities in India today.

Further to the OEM business relationship with Cummins, the Spares and Service business has come as a new feather with its service dealership in UP, MP and Uttarakhand. All these workshops house world-class service facilities along with original Cummins spare parts for Cummins customers in the region.

By strengthening its collaborative relationship with Cummins Inc., Jakson accelerated its expansion into the overseas market in 2009. Jakson is focusing on its distributorship business in Bangladesh, where Jakson is the sole distributor of Cummins products and services. Jakson’s overseas business also includes distribution of Hyster construction equipment in Bangladesh.

Jakson also expanded its manufacturing in a big way in 2010 by developing its largest facility spread over 30 acres in Kalsar, Gujarat. This facility is dedicated to Acoustic Enclosures manufacturing.

2010: A Decade of Diversification

This decade starting 2010, saw the Jakson group diversifying into a number of other sectors like Solar Power & Hospitality.

Jakson, taking the lead in powergen industry supported CII initiative of Green Building Movement with its corporate office at Noida while acquiring the Platinum certification in accordance with the guidelines of the Indian Green Building Council’s LEED standards. The new headquarter is a confident demonstration of the Group’s commitment to the environment. The new building is designed using energy efficient architecture, eco-friendly building materials, and building management systems that provide a vibrant clean, healthy and safe workforce for employees.

In 2011, a new milestone, Jakson entered in Jammu & Kashmir with the two units for manufacturing Generating Sets at SICOP, IID Centre, Kathua. With a cumulative manufacturing space of 435000 sq. ft, both units manufacture genset accessories base frames and fuel tanks along with Diesel and Gas based generating sets.

Jakson also laid foundation for its 25 MW solar power plant (with plans to scale it upto 100MW) to address growing power needs of India and provide a clean renewable source of energy. The foray into solar power production is in line with the growth strategy of looking at emerging markets and technologies for future growth of Jakson group, while nurturing its current lines of business to retain its position of market leader in the same.

Jakson has also made a foray into the Hospitality industry with a plan to open three Business hotels to begin with. These hotels will come up in industrial areas of Phaltan, Neemrana and Sanand.

Jakson along with Cummins inaugurated its first Global Training Centre in India – first of its kind in the industry in Greater Noida. It is fully equipped to handle Quantum series of engines and future generation of fully electronic products upto 3000 kVA rating. The Training Academy has been developed to train the engineers with the latest technology and handle after sales support of the CPCB 2 products shortly being introduced in India. The facility is designed to provide training solutions for entire family of Cummins Products to enhance end-user experience by giving them access to technical expertise. The facility is also a world class Service Center which would offer host of service solutions for its customers.
